Almonry Barn Wedding Photographer
I love shooting informal and relaxed weddings like this festival inspired summer wedding at The Almonry Barn. These types of weddings fit in perfectly with my photographic style. I love capturing real moments between couples and candid moments of guests enjoying themselves. I also love venues with beautiful outdoor space where I can photograph guests with gorgeous natural lighting.
Despite Fiona & Tim being from London, they chose to hold their wedding day at The Almonry Barn in Somerset after falling in love with the venue – and I can see why! I was more than happy to travel from london as well in order to photograph their laid back summer wedding.
The Almonry Barn
This historic stone barn is one of the oldest in the UK that’s still being used for weddings. The Barn is located in picturesque Somerset and is surrounded by beautiful rural surroundings and has a rustic elegance and beautiful architectural design throughout. It’s such a romantic and inspiring venue, with great options for both indoor and outdoor weddings.
The wedding ceremony took place upstairs hayloft room, and they held their wedding breakfast downstairs in the stone barn.
Summer Bride Style
Fiona’s dress was from Eliza Jane Howell. Fiona wanted a dress that was both comfortable, and flattering. She wanted her dress to have a 1920’s, meets woodland, meets romantic style to it and, she managed exactly that! Along with feeling comfortable herself Fiona wanted her bridesmaids to feel comfortable too – They settled on a theme and colour for the bridesmaid dresses but then she let the bridesmaids each pick their own. They coordinated when everyone found their dress and they all went really well together and everyone was happy.
The Bride and Grooms favourite things to do mostly centre around good food and drink, relaxing with friends and family and listening to music; and for their big day, they wanted to mix all these together. The whole day had such a nice, relaxed festival feel to it and the surroundings only helped add to the ambience of the wedding. It really is such a lovely location.
Outdoor Summer Wedding Games
Most of the day was actually spent outside, drinking and enjoying the stunning sunny weather. In particular, I loved the traditional English fete games they had set up outside. Games such as ‘bat the rat’, ‘coconut shy’ and ‘tin can alley’ – this provided great entertainment for the guests and made for some brilliant photo opportunities.
Stone Barn Wedding Decorations
Bramble & Wild who decorated the venue with their gorgeous flowers, really helped to bring The Almonry Barn to life thanks to the colours of the flower arrangements. To compliment the event, they went for blush (bridesmaid dress colour), burgundy (Groom’s suit), cream and sage. Moss was draped amongst the tables to really add to the feeling that the reception was in a woodland. Along with the moss, Fiona and Tim had tiny medicine bottles with a couple of flower stems in each, which added another very lovely personal touch to the event. They even made the name places themselves, and each table had a polaroid of a place where Fiona & Tim had visited – my personal favourite was of course the Glastonbury table. All these little additions made for a very memorable meal!
Relaxed Festival Wedding Photography
Part of the reason for booking me as their wedding photographer actually came from us discovering our mutual love for Glastonbury festival (see me age 5 loving it) We’ve all been numerous times and see it as the best festival ever! They loved that the Almonry barn was close to Glastonbury, as this meant something to them and gave them another very good reason to book this venue. This was an ideal wedding for me to photograph as well as I love relaxed summer weddings and being outside. Settings like this are perfect for capturing relaxed guests that are unaware and enjoying themselves. Luckily the weather was super sunny which meant most guests did spend the day outside – they even pushed back the first dance to enjoy the lovely warm summer evening.
I love how Fiona & Tim made sure the day reflected them as a couple – it suited them down to a T and it was evident that all the guests loved every minute of it.
